Roof collapses at factory, killing worker

BAYAN BARU, Nov 12, 2014:
A Western Digital operator died after the roof of his factory collapsed in a freak accident this evening.
The incident, which occurred in Kampung Jawa at 6.45pm today, was reported to the Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Department by a member of the public who was in the factory’s vicinity.
The department’s spokesperson told The Rakyat Post that the victim had been identified as Wan Nazari Wan Mokhtar, 48.
He said the man was buried under the rubble of the factory for 55 minutes before firemen pulled him out.
“We had to drill through the wreckage to get to him.
“Unfortunately, he had died under the rubble.
“There were no other victims trapped in the incident.”

trapped under the rubble and the rescue team could only remove his body

store supervisor of an electronics factory at the Bayan Lepas Free
Industrial Zone here was killed after being hit by a concrete roof which
collapsed at his workplace yesterday.
Wan Ahmad Nadzari Wan Mokhtar, 48, died on the spot when the 40 metres
long and four metres wide roof collapsed on him at 6.50pm.
Southwest district police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin said the man was
trapped under the rubble and the rescue team could only remove his body
at 7.50pm.
“The victim, who has worked at the factory for more than 10 years, was
said to have just checked in to begin his night shift when the incident
occurred,” he told reporters here yesterday.
He said the incident occurred during strong winds and heavy rain, but
the exact cause of the roof collapse was still under investigation.
The body was taken to Penang Hospital for post-mortem. ― Bernama
